Yet another TT podium stuffed Bank Holiday weekend for Brighton Mitre

The Spring Bank Holiday weekend is always a busy weekend on the TT calendar and this one was no different. The Mitre were well represented at the 10 and the Hilly 10 over in Steyning on the Bank Holiday Monday.

Tracy Williams (25:39) continued her winning ways with another win in the female category in the 10TT.  Cris Coxon somehow rode a sub-20 (19:59 to be precise) with a semi-flat tyre and sealant all over his skinsuit, but was beaten into second.  It would take someone pretty special to beat Cris I’d say, and in this case it was America’s cup star Matt Rossiter, who in less than ideal weather zapped a full 50 seconds off the course record and rode a 18:24. John Franklin (21:00) rode to the third spot on the overall and TT bike podiums. Tom Houghton, Brian Molloy, James Danvers, Donald Parker along with Robin Johnson also turned out and flew the Mitre Flag. The Mitre won the team prize for the event.

In the Hilly10, Cosmo Derangi (on a road bike but not yet in possession of a Mitre Skinsuit! 😉 ) rode to 2nd on the overall podium (8 seconds behind Pat Wright of Paceline RT on his TT bike) and 1st in the Road Bike Cat with a 25min on the nose, a full 3mins 22sec ahead of his nearest road bike contender. Jack Smith (27.01) rode to 2nd on the TT bike podium and 3rd overall. Also turning out for the Mitre were Philip Waldman and James Danvers with the Mitre securing the second team win of the day.  It was great to see Alwyn and his boys half way up the beacon encouraging / taunting (* delete as appropriate) riders along.  Thanks to Cris and Alwyn for the for the photos and videos.  Apologies for there not being any of the 10 but I wasn’t there early enough to catch the action.

Busy start to the TT season for Brighton Mitre CC

The Mighty Mitre have been bossing it in the early stages of the TT season with some excellent rides and podiums galore.

Cris Coxon, Adrian Ford and John Franklin kicked off the season with a Team win for the Mitre at the East Sussex CA March 10 on 9th March. Cris won the event with Adrian 3rd and John 4th.

Rory Knapp flew the flag for the Mitre at the RTTC National Road Bike Championship on 13th April, coming 46th overall.

April 18th saw Mitre continuing their winning ways at the Crawley Wheelers 42 with Cris atop the podium and Karla Boddy taking first place in the Female Road bike category.

April 21st saw the Mitre hosting the 27.3 TT. Jack Smith carried the BMCC flag that morning, coming 5th overall.

Jump forward to the Steyning weekender on the 10th and 11th May and yet again you’ll see Cris atop the podium in the SCA 10 on the 10th. Cosmo Derangi was 1st in the road bike category, Rory Knapp 2nd in the road bike category and Tracey Williams 2nd in the Female TT bike category. At the time of writing the official results for the SCA 25 on Sunday 11th May haven’t been posted but Strava tells me that, surprise surprise, Cris won the event, setting a new course PB. Also on the start sheet were Cosmo, Donald Parker, Tracey and as ever Robin Johnson. I’ll update this when results are published, but it’s fair to say it was a cracking weekend on racing.

Robin hasn’t been off the bike it seems, competing in 7 events already this season.

Casting eyes forward we have a calendar full of events. On the bank holiday weekend the Mitre are hosting 2 TT’s. Monday 26th May sees the 10 and the Hilly 10 taking place over at Steyning. Entries close in 3 days so best scoot over to https://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/events/30785-brighton-mitre-cc-10 or https://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/events/30777-brighton-mitre-cc-hilly-10 to secure your place.

Results from the 2nd Mill Hill Hill Climb

The 2nd Hill Climb of the year took place on Mill Hill on 29th April. It was a warm and dry evening but the typical headwind up the final drag was present as usual to make the racing that bit more plesent. There were 9 riders in the field.

Brighton Mitre Mill Hill Hill Climb #1 22nd April 2025

Mill Hill Hill Climb Shoreham

On a beautiful evening riders from The Mitre, Horsham Cycling and Preston Park Youth met to take on Mill Hill.

Here are the results of tonight’s Hill Climb, with a Mitre top three of Cosmo Derangi blasting up the hill in a blistering 7min 27.5 sec to take the win, Jack Smith (8min 12.9sec) second and Giles Ruffer (8min 47.8sec) third.  Youth rider Jack Palton PPYCC (9min 03.8sec) was 4th and Gemma Lewis (9min 55sec) of SRVC won the Female Cat.

Whilst we were up on Mill Hill we noticed smoke and flames coming from just north of Steyning.  This turned out to be Mitre Marek Shafer cranking his 56T chainring and lighting the afterburners to the win the Brighton Excelsior 5TT in 10min 12sec.  His wingman on the evening was John Tindle who rode to third with 10min 53sec.  Both were on road bikes and managed to ride the TT so quickly they still had time to ride to the start of Mill Hill before we’d finished.  Sadly both politely declined the offer of a late entry for the Hill Climb.

We return to Mill Hill on Tuesday 29th at 7pm for the second edition.  Details here..
